Gascoigne pauses, axe covered in gore, splattered in blood, shreds of organs and shards of bone. He turns, and Fulgrim takes a half step back. There’s something very wrong, he realizes suddenly.

“Beasts all over the shop. You'll be one of them, sooner or later…” Gascoigne’s breath fogs the air as he snarls, and he turns on Fulgrim with the same single-mindedness that he fought the Cleric Beast with.( Read more... )

When Fulgrim stands again, his clothes are miraculously clean once more. He wonders, a little humorously, if he ought to thank them for cleaning him up as well. Instead he holsters his pistol and looks around for the Doll. She’s up the hill a little ways, kneeling in front of a small gravestone. He pauses behind her, uncertain if he should interrupt, but she stands, shaking out her skirts.

“Welcome home, good hunter. What is it you desire?” She asks, and it sounds warm. He wonders silently how a doll can be so gently warm and inviting, and puts it out of his mind.( Read more... )

Rustling cloth, a soft thump. The scratch of a pen on paper.

“Contract’s all drawn up.”

“What’s happening?”

A tired, slurred voice. An unkind, nasal laugh.

“Aren't you lucky. This blood's rather special. It may well cure you of your peculiar condition. Now, here’s your contract. Sign it here.”

“…very well…”

Orihime yawned and stretched, rolling out of her futon to get up for the day. Her boxes ought to be arriving at some point today. She peeked behind the curtain – dawn was just breaking. She opened the green fabric wide, cracking the window. it was kind of stuffy in this room. She doubted her family used it much. She opened up her wardrobe and got dressed quickly, soft gray, close-cut jeans and a fuzzy blue-gray sweater. She plucked nervously at the long hem of the sweater, falling past her hips in a more feminine cut. Maybe she should wear something more masculine? He honestly wasn't sure what to expect- he hadn't seen the kid in at least ten, twelve years? Hell, his clearest memory of the boy was of him in diapers, what had Yumiko been thinking? He sighed, running his hand through his hair again. She hadn't been thinking about the kid, that was damn sure. She'd initially booked the kid – no, Yû, that was his name – a ticket for the day before school started. He'd managed to talk his sister into making it a week before school instead, saying that he and Nanako needed the time to adjust to having Yû there.
